Greetings everyone, a lot has changed and my focused is no longer about homeschooling. Even though, I am still very passionate about home education. My focus has shifted and . . . the kids are in school, I teach part-time and I had a baby who is now almost two. I missed blogging. More sooner than later, but now I have to finish a flyer.

Can anyone tell me if you can blog more than one photo using flickr? Anyway this is our rain gauge. Nothing but an apples sauce jar, marbles, clear tape and printed rulers. So ah, well, hmm, when are those April showers that bring the flowers coming? Ms. Mofsah is going to check the gauge and record in inches the rain fall each week. So bring it on!

Never happened. Well, I had to take matters into my own hands. Why do I need this handle? Closet raiders. A favorite past time of littl’uns during homeschool time. No one wants to refold and reorganize clothes everyday. So, now the handle and my alarm system are perfect in harmony again. This thing actually has a siren and yes that is a scrunchie! Leave me alone!

Did We Homeschool Monday @#$% NO! March 13, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — ummbinat @ 6:05 pm

What did we do? Well, we spent a majority of the day in the yard. The kids put on gloves and picked up trash and litter along the bushes adjancent to the house. The wind had blown some of our recycled trash out of the bins, so were blame for the clutter. Than we sorted the items into 3 categories: paper recylable, paper trash, plastic recyclable and just trash. Ms. Mofsah racked leaved than abadoned her post to dig “contruction” wearing knee pads and elbow pads from her bike. The other two helped. They planted twigs, like a pretend garden. We threw out soggy side walk chalk and eliminated the front door clutter.

In the afternoon, I put up curtains. Remember I am Skip’s daughter. So, I drilled holes, put in anchors, drilled again and viola! I tried to take a photo it came out like this!

A Little Bit of Color March 9, 2007

We did some painting. Unintentionally, Ms. Mofsah chose a Spring motif with flowers rainbows, bees, rainbows, butterflies  and friends. The other two were rather dark, probably not a sign of any pent up anger. More so an issue of too much paint and too  much mixing. For them mission accomplished. We also, borrowed the crayon stained glass ideafrom Islamic Homeschool, I believe borrowed it from someone else.

Ms. Mofsah completed her In Winter . . . book. I would show you a photo, but my uplouder is acting up, as usual. Later

Do You Remember IKEA Jones? March 3, 2007

After two failed attempts, I was determined to have a pleasent and fruitful visit to IKEA.  My mission: to purchase adjustable table-legs for the homeschool table and treat my kids to .99 cent lunch and a romp in the ball pit. Sounds simple, NEVER!!!! After getting repeated bad advice from the same sales associate, 500 missing table legs no where to be found in the whole entire store and buying, bringing home the absolutely wrong thing. I say I am almost ready to divorce myself from Mr. IKEA Jones. Talaaaq, Talaaq, Ta . . . . Well 3 times is kind of permanant.  I did score big is As-is. My self-proclaimed dollar section. So what next? Well, after some research of my own, I could possibly purchase the frame that will allow the WRONG legs to fit on the bottom of my table. But that will put my total for this project at nearly $80.00, which is $30.00 more than I payed for the table originally. So they will be going back and I will sit on this project until my wobbly table  collapses in the middle a Saxon Lesson. By then, I pray IKEA Jones gets his act together and we can be back in furniture aesthetic harmoney.

Sentenced to Grammar March 2, 2007

We started SENTENCES! So far  no writing, just visual and multisensory. Our focus this week has been NAMING and ACTION parts otherwise known as subjects and verbs. For the most part I have been writing the parts on card stock, Ms. Mofsah has been arranging the parts into sentences, identifing the naming parts and action parts. Next will be punctuation. I found this literature series on Ms. Meacham’s site. By the way, I am loving what she is doing.  However the downside is I can’t find the books in the libraries and they cost $20.00. That’s a lot in homeschool money.  I am going to use Ms. Meacham’s editing technique once we start putting pen to paper. Anybody have any ideas?

Lapbooks hmmmm February 26, 2007

I am intrigued with lapbooks. I did a search on flickr and found this picture along with others. They really seem like a great way to display student work. I am wondering, these might come in handy with some upcoming Islamic studies units. Ms. Mofsa probably will really dig this, especially since she thinks her work is void of CRAFTS. Any excuse to pull out the scissors and glue. Question is . . . how do you store them until the BIG REVIEW (I have never been to one, but just prepared one, I hear they are a breeze.) Just me being dramatic. Have anything to share on the topic please post.
